
Shirley Sieps
Shirley A. Sieps, 69, of Dell Rapids passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012 surrounded by her family at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Shirley was born on March 26th, 1942 to George & Minnie Stockel in Hustisford, Wisconsin. She moved to a farm eight miles east of Dell Rapids as a young child and graduated from Trent High School in 1960. Shirley then married Roger Sieps in 1960 and lived in Rapid City. From there, they moved to Huron, Sioux Falls, and Baltic before moving to Dell Rapids in 1976. They have two children, Nancy and Bob.
Shirley loved to spend time with her family most of all. She loved to talk and especially loved to call up anyone just to see how they’re doing. Shirley was active member at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Her faith meant a lot to her. She had a knack for decorating and was a wonderful cook. There were always fresh baked goods available when anyone stopped by. Shirley loved to tend to her garden, and she could spend hours planting, weeding, and making her yard look beautiful. She recently learned to embroider and enjoyed making table cloths. She and Roger purchased a home in Tucson, AZ in 2006 and spent winters there. She also loved to read and play cards.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers-in-law Bill Sieps and Milton Hanson. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Roger, of Dell Rapids; her daughter, Nancy (Paul) Mergen of Brookings, SD; her son, Bob (Barb) Sieps of Lincoln, NE; her grand-daughter Cassandra (Justin) of Dell Rapids; her grandson, Bryan (Leah) of Sioux Falls; and grand-daughters Kate, Kelly, Sarah of Lincoln, NE; her sister, Delphine Hanson of Fairmont, MN; her brother, Dale (Dolly) Stockel of Tucson, AZ; her sister-in-law, Jennifer Anderson of Coppell, TX; her sister in law, Mary Beth (Todd) Madson, of Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends who loved her very much.

Lowell Behrens
Lowell J. Behrens, 52, of Dell Rapids, SD passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD with family present after a 6-year courageous battle with cancer. His Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids with Pastors Dave Winterfeldt and Tim Lemme officiating. Casketbearers are Russ Miller, Mark Jensen, Greg Ammon, Doug Degen, Paul Gardiner, Mike Sprang, Craig Larson, and Steve Clark. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Lowell was born on January 7, 1960 to Lowell and Bonnie Behrens in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Dell Rapids for most of his life and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1979. Lowell then attended Mitchell Technical Institute for Electrical Construction and Maintenance. He worked as an Electrician since his graduation, and then earned his Contractor’s License.
Lowell married Cindy Degen in 1982. They lived in Bismarck, ND until 1989 when they moved back to Dell Rapids. They had two children, Angela and Brian, and later divorced. Lowell married Rhonda Winegar in June of 2003. They currently resided in Dell Rapids at the time of his passing and had two Chocolate Labradors, Moca and Cocoa.
Lowell enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, going to Sturgis, pheasant and deer hunting in Wessington Springs, being a pheasant guide during the hunting season, cowboy action shooting, helping his father-in-law restore antique tractors, sailing and boating, tinkering in the garage on projects, wood working, playing with his Grandson Derrick, running the dogs, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loyal Broncos fan with his family. Lowell was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, president of the South Dakota Electrical Council for many years, president of the Dell Rapids Sportsmen’s Club, very active in the Jaycees, served on the Dell Rapids City Council, and was a former member of the Dell Rapids Ambulance Service.
Lowell is preceded in death by his father, Lowell S. Behrens; his mother, Bonnie Lawrey; his stepfather, Lloyd E. VanScoy; his aunts, Betty Peterson and Bernice Poteet; and his stepbrother, Lloyd VanScoy Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rhonda Behrens of Dell Rapids; his daughter, Angela (Kevin) Donlin of Glendale, AZ; his son, Brian Behrens (Alex Hellwig) of Dell Rapids; his grandson, Derrick Donlin; his expected granddaughter, Nadine Donlin; his sisters, Brenda (Randy) Anthes of New River, AZ and Torine Cook of Flagstaff, AZ; his stepmother, Connie Behrens of Madison, SD; his grandmother, Jean Lemme of Madison, SD; his stepfather, Owen Lawrey of Cave Creek, AZ; his aunts, Beverly Roelfsema of Renner, SD and Ella Bobb of Santa Maria, CA; many stepsisters and stepbrothers; many sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends who loved him very much.

Ernest Merry
Ernest Dwight “Ernie” Merry, 91, of Dell Rapids passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1st Baptist Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Friday with the family present from 5:00 to 7:30 PM and a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids. Ernie was born December 15, 1920 on a farm east of Dell Rapids to John Hart and Velma June (Guild) Merry. Ernie was the youngest and a twin brother to Curtis They moved to the family farm southeast of Dell Rapids in 1921. He attended Hart School District #27 until 8th grade then Dell Rapids High School, graduating in 1940.
On March 7, 1944 he was married to Evelyn Irene Hines in Dell Rapids. They farmed east of Dell Rapids. She passed away in August of 1985. He continued to farm there until his retirement and marriage to Dena F. Nielsen Kock on March 11, 1989. They lived in Chester for four years before moving to Wentworth in 1993. Dena passed away February 1, 2002. Ernie resided at Friendship Village in Dell Rapids before moving to Orchard Hills in June of 2011 and finally to Terrace Manor.
Ernie was a member of 1st Baptist Church, Sunday School Treasure, on the Pulpit Committee as well as various other church boards, Dell Rapids Cemetery Board, Logan Township Clerk, and Hart School Board. He was the maintainer operator for Logan Township from 1968 to 1969, a South Dakota Pioneer livestock shipper at the Sioux Falls Stockyards and a 4-H leader.
Grateful for having shared his life are sons, Irving (Connie) and Keith (Susie) both of Dell Rapids; daughters, LuAnn Johnson (Les Wintrode), Philip, SD and Phyllis (Tim) Bettles, Herington, KS; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; seven step-children, Joanne (Virgil) Limmer-Gagnon, Madison, SD; Lyvone Yeigh, Sioux Falls SD; Judy (Don) Finell, Lennox, SD; Gloria (Warren) Bidwell, New Ulm, MN; Gerald (Jean) Cowiche, WA; Richard (Janet) Kock, Madison, SD and Merlin (Judy) Kock, Sioux Falls, SD; as well as numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.

Dale Fields
Dale Fields, 85, of Dell Rapids passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Brownsville, TX. His Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Dale was born on February 11, 1926 to Ord and Anna Fields in Jasper, MN. He grew up on the family farm in Egan, SD and graduated from Egan High School. Dale served in the US Navy during W.W.II in the South Pacific on the USS Santee from 1944 -1946.
Dale married Mary Ellen Becker on May 14, 1947 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. They moved to Dell Rapids, SD. Dale was employed for L. G. Everist for 42 years. He retired in 1992 after which he enjoyed his winters in Brownsville, TX with Mary Ellen. Dale and Mary Ellen would have enjoyed 65 years of marriage in May.
Dale was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Dell Rapids American Legion Post and the Dell Rapids Golf Course. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Anna (DeBates) and Ord Fields, his brothers, Virgil, Lyle and Glen and his grandson, Dale "Buddy" Fields.
Dale is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Dell Rapids; his children, Richard(Melinda) of Fortine, CO, Kathy (George) of Littleton, CO, Douglas (Linda) of Sioux Falls, Thomas (Kathy) of Grand Junction, CO, Dennis (Marcella) of Golden, CO, Colleen (Kevin) of Minneapolis, MN, and Lisa (John) of Austin, TX; his 12 grandchildren, Richie, Jennifer Bernie (Kim), Brenda (Sam), Craig (Amanda), Rebecca (Nathan), Grant (Anitrina) Tyler, Carter, Mariah, Noah and Elise, and 6 great grandchildren; his brother, Lloyd of Flandreau, SD; his sister, Vera Gebhart of Flandreau, SD; his sisters-in-law, JoAnn Fields of Dell Rapids, SD and Gertrude Judge of St. Paul, MN; his brother-in-law, Bill Becker of Red Wing, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Tabor Larsen

Tabor was born on August 30, 1991, at Willmar, MN. At age two he moved with his mother to Sioux Falls, SD, and later moved to Dell Rapids when his mother married Bruce Larsen. Tabor attended school at Dell Rapids Elementary School and Dell Rapids High School where he enjoyed football, wrestling and playing the trumpet in the school band. He had a love for all animals. He moved to Harrisburg and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 2010. He attended basic training for the US Army Reserve between his junior and senior years. He attended AIT for the Army Reserve after his high school graduation. He lived with his grandmother in Dell Rapids until recently moving to Sioux Falls. He had worked with his father at Midwest Tire and Muffler. He had most recently worked at KWIK - Way Manufacturing Company. Tabor passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was 20 years old.

Carol VanHolland, 68, of Dell Rapids passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Dougherty House Hospice in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at The Reformed Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in The Reformed Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids. Carol Jean was born February 25, 1943 at Ruthton, MN to parents Pete and Alice (Berghvis) Vanden Bosch. She attended country school near Holland, MN thru the 8th grade and graduated from Edgerton High School. She then attended nursing school at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. After graduation, she worked for Sioux Valley Hospital for two years. Carol met Arvin VanHolland at a church youth group. They married February 12, 1963 at Holland, MN. The couple moved to a farm northwest of Egan, SD where they lived until moving to Dell Rapids in 2008. Carol worked as a health nurse for Moody County then at Terrace Manor Nursing Home for over twenty years. She collected thimbles and enjoyed shopping and rummaging. She spent countless hours gardening and was especially proud of her flower garden on the farm. Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and many friends. She was a member of The Reformed Church and always looked forward to Bible studies. She taught Sunday school and was always active in the community as a volunteer. Carol’s favorite color was blue. Carol VanHolland
A master seamstress, Connie spent much of her free time sewing, knitting and quilting. She sewed pants and shirts for family, fixed jackets and coats for friends and ensured wedding dresses were perfect for countless brides. Connie also loved her country music and her Chicago Cubs. She took up her love of baseball after her son Steven Jr. found the game as a youth. 
Constance “Connie” Margaret Cook, 68, passed away peacefully at home with her husband Steven at her side Dec. 20, 2011, leaving behind a love for her family, her church and her work.
Connie was born Sept. 5, 1943, in Dell Rapids, S.D., the daughter of Nic J. and Elizabeth (Kirpas) Penning. A graduate of St. Mary Catholic School in Dell Rapids and the National College of Business in Rapid City, S.D., Connie moved to Iowa City with a job at Mercy Hospital. She remained at Mercy for nearly four decades, serving as a secretary and later as staffing coordinator.
Connie and Steven were married July 5, 1975, Connie from eastern South Dakota, Steven from central Iowa. The two had a chance meeting at a singles event in Iowa City in 1974 and were together thereafter. Connie was a longtime and devoted communicant of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville, where she worked to pass on her faith to younger members through leading religion classes. She continued that work even in the weeks preceding her passing.
Connie is survived by her husband, Steven Sr., their children Steven Cook Jr. and Rachael Ayers-Arnone, along with Steven Jr. and Rachael’s spouses, Laurie (Schwarz) Cook and Anthony Arnone, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jack Ayers.
One of 14 siblings, Connie is also survived by four brothers and six sisters, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her and husband’s infant daughter Elizabeth by Connie’s parents and three brothers.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville, with the funeral Mass beginning at 1 p.m. Reverend Walter Helms will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Thomas More Catholic Church or The Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Wenge, 85, of Dell Rapids passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm on Monday at Kahler Funeral Home and the family will be present to greet friends at 7:00pm. Elaine Rommereim was born on October 10, 1926 in Beresford, the daughter of Andrew and Lena (Waxdahl) Rommereim. She grew up in the Romsdahl area and attended country school. Elaine moved to the Flandreau-Egan area with her family and graduated from Egan High School. She married Fred Wenge in Flandreau. They made their home on farms between Trent and Egan. They moved into Dell Rapids in the late 1980’s. Elaine worked at Citibank for many years and also at the Odd Fellows Home for a short time. She became a resident at Terrace Manor in 2000. Her husband, Fred, passed away in January of 2010. Elaine passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Terrace Manor Nursing Home. She was 85 and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and three brothers. Myron Wilbur “Bud” Larsen, 85, suddenly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 13, 2011 after his daily walk on a sunny Sunday afternoon. His welcoming smile and eager handshake will be missed by his family and many friends. Bud was born on May 15, 1926 while his father finished his residency in Denver, CO. He spent his grade school years in Hudson, SD and fondly recounted stories of his boyhood there. His family moved to Watertown, SD when he entered high school. As a high school senior in 1944, Bud enlisted in the Navy and left for boot camp the day after his high school graduation to serve two years on the USS Natrona. Bud attended Luther College in Decorah, IA graduating with a B.S. in Biology. He then attended Seminary in St. Paul, MN for one year but decided the ministry was not his calling. He decided to take education courses at Augustana College the summer of 1952 when he met Elaine C. Lovro, the love of his life. They married August 24, 1952 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage before Elaine’s death in April, 2006. Bud attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD graduating in 1956 with a degree in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist in Yankton, Huron, McLaughlin, Sioux Falls, Madison, Brandon and Redfield, SD, thoroughly enjoying meeting and serving his many customers. Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Judith (Reid) Peterson of Peoria, IL; Steve Larsen (Mary Jones) of Sioux Falls, and John (Carolyn) Larsen of Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, Scott Peterson, Rebecca Cline, Leeah Peterson, Luke Peterson, Eric Larsen, Kellie Larsen, Katie Larsen and Ben Larsen, one great-granddaughter, Ava Peterson, and many close friends. Jennifer Lynn Wright, age 20, of Warsaw, passed away early Sunday morning, November 13, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Warsaw. She was born on January 6, 1991, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie Belk and Tracey Wright-Belk. Jennifer grew up in Warsaw, until moving to South Dakota in 1998. She graduated from Dell Rapids High School in Dell Rapids, South Dakota in 2009. Jennifer returned to Warsaw with her parents in 2010. She worked as a waitress for Taco Villa in Warsaw. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and taking pictures. She was known to be always on the go. However her most enjoyable activity was the time spent with her family. She had a “Big Heart” for those around her and she will be dearly missed by those who loved her. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Earl Wright, her maternal grandfather, Allen Jones and one uncle Jay Jones, in 2001. She is survived by her parents, Tracey Wright-Belk and Charlie Belk, of Warsaw, her biological father, James Wright, of Warsaw, her maternal grandmother, Roberta “Sis” Jones, of Warsaw, her paternal grandmother, Evelyn Wright, of Lincoln, Missouri, two brothers, James Allen Wright, of Belton, Missouri and Jesse Dale Wright, of South Dakota, a step-brother, Jacob Dean, of Clinton, Missouri, , Missouri six aunts; Virginia Jones, of Rapid City, South Dakota, Vicki Jones, of Pierre, South Dakota, Susan Pilcher, of Warick, Rhode Island, Renee McCormick, of Lathrop, Missouri, Edith “Boo-Boo” Paris-Noland, of Republic, Missouri, and Geni Rahmer, of Kansas City, Kansas, uncles, Jeff Jones, of Billings, Montana and uncle Kevin Nolan of Warsaw, nieces, nephews, cousins, including two special cousins she considered sisters, Miriah Paris and Amy Noland, both of Republic, Missouri, other relatives and many friends. Valerie passed away suddenly on Monday, November 28, 2011 in her home. She was 48 and preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Rodney and an infant son, Justin Terrence.

Bud Larsen
After retiring, Bud lived in Dell Rapids and Sioux Falls, most recently at Prairie Creek Lodge. Bud enjoyed attending yearly reunions with USS Natrona Navy buddies in various locations in the U.S. He enjoyed singing with Mandskor and many church choirs. He loved his Lord and Savior and devoted much time to studying scripture and prayer.

Dale Fields, 85, of Dell Rapids passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Brownsville, TX. His Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Dale was born on February 11, 1926 to Ord and Anna Fields in Jasper, MN. He grew up on the family farm in Egan, SD and graduated from Egan High School. Dale served in the US Navy during W.W.II in the South Pacific on the USS Santee from 1944 -1946.
Dale married Mary Ellen Becker on May 14, 1947 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. They moved to Dell Rapids, SD. Dale was employed for L. G. Everist for 42 years. He retired in 1992 after which he enjoyed his winters in Brownsville, TX with Mary Ellen. Dale and Mary Ellen would have enjoyed 65 years of marriage in May. Dale was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Dell Rapids American Legion Post and the Dell Rapids Golf Course. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Anna (DeBates) and Ord Fields, his brothers, Virgil, Lyle and Glen and his grandson, Dale “Buddy” Fields.
Dale is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Dell Rapids; his children, Richard(Melinda) of Fortine, CO, Kathy (George) of Littleton, CO, Douglas (Linda) of Sioux Falls, Thomas (Kathy) of Grand Junction, CO, Dennis (Marcella) of Golden, CO, Colleen (Kevin) of Minneapolis, MN, and Lisa (John) of Austin, TX; his 12 grandchildren, Richie, Jennifer Bernie (Kim), Brenda (Sam), Craig (Amanda), Rebecca (Nathan), Grant (Anitrina) Tyler, Carter, Mariah, Noah and Elise, and 6 great grandchildren; his brother, Lloyd of Flandreau, SD; his sister, Vera Gebhart of Flandreau, SD; his sisters-in-law, JoAnn Fields of Dell Rapids, SD and Gertrude Judge of St. Paul, MN; his brother-in-law, Bill Becker of Red Wing, MN and many nieces and nephews. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to the St. Mary Building Fund, the Ronald McDonald House or the Dell Rapids Library.

Tabor’s Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Dell Rapids with Pastor Frank McKeehan officiating. Casketbears are Sam Everist, Eric VanBallegooyen, Brenden Entringer, Justin Parrot, Josh Limoges, Michael Carpenter Jr., Tyler Entringer and Austin Gee. Visitation will begin at at 2:00 p.m. with the family present at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.
Tabor was born on August 30, 1991, at Willmar, MN. At age two he moved with his mother to Sioux Falls, SD, and later moved to Dell Rapids when his mother married Bruce Larsen. Tabor attended school at Dell Rapids Elementary School and Dell Rapids High School where he enjoyed football, wrestling and playing the trumpet in the school band. He had a love for all animals. He moved to Harrisburg and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 2010. He attended basic training for the US Army Reserve between his junior and senior years. He attended AIT for the Army Reserve after his high school graduation. He lived with his grandmother in Dell Rapids until recently moving to Sioux Falls. He had worked with his father at Midwest Tire and Muffler. He had most recently worked at KWIK - Way Manufacturing Company. Tabor passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was 20 years old.
